Scamper is one of the most useful thinking tools. It incorporates many of the others. It ties in well with “Synthesis” in Blooms Taxonomy. Using what you know and creating something new.

Suggested Activities:
Substitute ( or switch)
- What do you think would have happened if there had been an elephant in Granny’s bed instead of a wolf? ( Little Red Riding Hood)
- What would happen if our criminals were made our leaders? Yellow /black hat
- What would happen if we switched all our modern communication tools for those used a 100 yrs ago? Brainstorm the consequences.
- How do you think the story may have changed if the wolf had the same personality as Granny? ( Little Red Riding Hood)
- What might happen if we joined or asked two very different cultures to live together? Jews and Arabs, Maoris and Eskimos , etc. Yellow and black hat the consequences
- Combine what you think are the best features of two sports and create a new one.
Adapt ( or alter)
- How do you think the wolf would have reacted if the hunter had walked in with Little Red riding Hood?
- What might have happened if flags were made of stiff material like metal?.
- Change your form of communication for the first half hour of the day. “You have lost your voice and cannot speak” ( could put small bit of sellotape over mouth). Evaluate by doing a PMI.
Modify ( magnify)
- How would the story have changed if Little Red Riding Hood had been much larger than the wolf?
- How would our community change if sport was not important? If rugby was banned as a dangerous sport?
- How could we modify the entrance to the school to make it more attractive?
Put to use ( apply)
- How could Little Red riding Hood have used her hood to save Grandma?
- How could we use sport to help reduce terrorism? To help prevent cancer, to help make peace in Zimbabwee?
- How could we use the holidays to help our learning?
- How could we use the "Village" to help less fortunate schools?
Eliminate (Eradicate)
- Retell Little Red riding Hood without a Wood Cutter in it.
- What would happen if we had no Sun? Do a C&S with short & long term consequences?
- What would happen if countries did not have flags? ( Positive and negative)
Rearrange (reverse)
- What would have happen if Little Red Riding Hood had arrived at Granny’s house before the Wolf arrived?
- If the date was 1924 (when the first Open- Air classroom at Fendalton School was build) what might have been the school philosophy or rules
- Rearrange the parking in the school to accommodate the growing need.
